Summer greetings to you all from Quarantine-landia. It’s so hard to believe that it’s been four months since I had students in my graphic design classroom. Harder still to imagine that the start of the 2020/2021 school year is less than a month away. So much about the way we live now, the way we will learn soon has changed.
Be on the lookout for more details about how we’ll continue our learning journey together in The Hive. It will require flexibility, accountability, and communication. I know we can learn from each other and from the challenges we’ve all faced over the past few months due to COVID-19. School isn’t going to be the same, but neither will we. Although each of us has had a different experience during this quarantine, we all have something in common: we are forever changed. We must figure out a new way of learning, of collaborating, of being in community with one another when we cannot be in the same place at the same time.
I don’t have the answers. While I have been thinking a lot about the content of my classes and what I’d want students to learn, there are many decision to be made about how best to achieve that. It will take all of us thinking on this problem together to come up with solutions that meet students where they are, embrace the challenges ahead, and enable us to not just survive the school year ahead, but to thrive.
Be on the lookout for surveys, emails, etc. in the weeks ahead as we prepare for the school year. To my returning students – I look forward to reconnecting with you as we continue our learning journey together. To my new graphic design students, I look forward to getting to know you and welcoming you to The Hive. – Mrs. B
